Join Yo CiTY CONNECT: AFRO-FUTURE, for a day on the grass at Abbotsford Convent’s Heritage Gardens featuring music, food, drinks, and African diasporic literature in an all-inclusive family-friendly affair.
In a day full of celebrating Black artists, art, and people, this cultural extravaganza transcends boundaries, inviting everyone to join the celebration.
Co-hosted by Lydia Tesema and Noah DaCosta, witness the dynamic soul-based sounds of Le Soul, the Ghanaian percussions of WALA IS LIFE Ensemble, Brotha Asanti & Soulectric’s lush melodies, the unique sounds of Ausecuma Beats, Cool Out Sun, Jali Buba, and Alariya on the main stage.
Feel the pulse of Africa’s beats as our sensational 3 DJs—KGOMOTSO, PK & CHRIS NG—spin a mesmerising blend of sounds from the motherland.
Interwoven throughout the day are invitations into the diverse richness of Black culture:
Curated by Guido Melo, AFRO (LIT)ERATURE* offers an open and encouraging space for aspiring writers and those interested in African Australian and diasporic writing to learn from award-winning authors.
Featured workshop facilitators or spoken word performers include Maxine Beneba Clarke, Cath Moore, Denise Chapman, Thabani Tshuma, Sisonke Msimang, and Effie Nkrumah.
Head to East Africa to join Atakilty ‘Ata’ Woreita in an Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony as she serves the richness of community and hospitality through the art of coffee brewing.
Become fully immersed in the culture through Bahaar Henna tattooing, with the delicate temporary stain of henna. For the kids, there is face paint and lawn games available throughout, making AFRO-FUTURE a fun day out for the entire family!
