On Greek National Day we bring you a Celebration of the poetic genius of ancient Greece. This March 25th be transported through history as we celebrate Greek culture and Greek Independence Day with a mystical and enchanting performance from Gavin Shri Amneon. Gavin will present a sung rendition of Hesiod’s Theogony (in the original Ancient Greek) with accompanying live music by Will Thompson on bouzouki, and Michael Green on soprano and bass clarinet. Gavin recorded released a CD of the full Theogony in 2019. The concert will be followed by a demonstration of the ancient Greek Aulos (double flute).
The Theogony text describes the arrival of the ancient Greek gods on earth and the creation of the nine muses who give to us the gifts of art, poetry and music. Through his own gifts for art, poetry and music Gavin brings this text alive for a contemporary audience. The work is entrancing in both its depth and accessibility. Gavin has been working as a mystic and artist for over 30 years and his performances have embraced a variety of venues from the intimacy of the lounge room to the breadth of the festival stage. A musical and poetic journey into the cradle of Western civilisation.
For this performance Gavin will be accompanied by Will Thompson on bouzouki, and Michael Green on soprano and bass clarinet.
