Come and hear author Om in conversation with Cath Scarth, CEO of AMES Australia.
About this Event
Forced to flee Bhutan as a refugee, Om Dhungel is today an award-winning community leader in Western Sydney and a debut author, whose new book is described by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as simply ‘a great Australian story’.
Come and hear author Om in conversation with Cath Scarth, CEO of AMES Australia, the Victorian Government’s unique refugee and migrant service organisation.
They will share their experience, observations, challenges and achievements in their respective roles in the settlement journey, contrasts across the two major settlement states and their visions for Australia’s next wave.
They will be joined by panellists from Afghanistan and Ukraine who have recently arrived in Melbourne and provide a platform for their experiences and voice.
The conversation will be moderated by Walkley Award winning journalist and co-author of Bhutan to Blacktown, James Button.
This event will explore what we can all learn about refugee leadership and how policy can support effective settlement.
