South Melbourne’s ever present defender Jake Marshall took the top honours as the winner of the 2023 NPLM Gold Medal for the best player of the season. The other winners on the night for the NPLM Awards were Jonas Markovski of Altona Magic won both the Player’s Player Award and the Golden Boot for top scorer. Javi Lopez of South Melbourne won Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row. And Ben Cahn of Melbourne Knights and Zoran Markovski of Avondale shared the honours for Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile for the NPLW, Kurea Okino from Boroondara won the NPLW Gold Medal as well as the Player’s Player award and the Golden Boot in what was an amazing season! Natalie Picak of Calder United won Goalkeeper of the Year, and Loui Spiridis of Bayside was crowned Coach of the Year.

On Saturday at The Home of Matilda’s, Bulleen Lion’s and South Melbourne did battle for the NPLW Victoria Grand Final.

It was a high scoring affair as South Melbourne won the grand final, 4-2.

The first two goals came from direct corners in the 14th minute by Tayla Christensen and in the 28th minute by Akeisha Sandhu, while the other two goals were scored in the 70th minute by Danielle Wise and in the 87th minute by Zoe Lambi. On Sunday at Olympic Village, it was time for the NPLM Grand Final between Avondale and South Melbourne.

Unfortunately for South Melbourne they couldn’t make amends for their loss last year, and were defeated by Avondale 4-0.
