The Minister for Local Government, the Hon Melissa Horne MP, has announced a six-month
extension to the term of the two Municipal Monitors appointed to Brimbank City Council under
section 179 of the Local Government Act 2020.
Ms Janet Dore and Ms Penelope Holloway were appointed in February 2024 as monitors to guide
good governance and to provide reports back to the Minister on these matters.
Their appointment has been extended for a further six months, from 1 January 2025 to 30 June
2025.
Brimbank Mayor Councillor Thuy Dang said that the Council had benefited from the presence of
the Monitors since February 2024.
“Council has been working closely with the State appointed Municipal Monitors since February
2024 and welcomes the extension of their term for another six months,” Cr Dang said.
Cr Dang explained that Councillors have been deeply engaged in a comprehensive induction
program since the commencement of this term, with the support of the Municipal Monitors and
the Executive Leadership Team.
“Brimbank’s Councillors have demonstrated strong engagement and commitment to this process
that will support its robust governance.
“Our newly elected Council is off to a strong start, and we are committed to continue our work
with the Municipal Monitors to ensure Brimbank’s good governance and the best outcomes for
the community.
“It is absolutely essential that our community has confidence in their elected representatives’
governance of Council,” Cr Dang said.
