From next year the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) the body that distributes Government money to ethnic community broadcasters and their Stations will be introducing new policies and guidelines As you are aware ethnic broadcasters across Australia and indeed the broader multicultural community are opposing these changes because:
1. They remove the democratic right to elect representatives to the CBF Board and/or its funding committees and
2. Abolish the 40 year old system of a fair, simple and equitable hourly rate funding for each program.
The changes will have a substantial impact on the cooperative culture of our community volunteer broadcasters, our Stations and Communities will set one broadcaster against another with less money going to where it is needed the most; to the broadcasters and their Stations. The new regulations shall require broadcasters to record their spending in detail and a complicated reporting process will be required.
Despite our opposition to the impending changes the CBF is determined to go ahead, proclaiming that everything will be OK.
3ZZZ in cooperation with the National Organization of Ethnic Broadcasters the NEMBC invite you and all ethnic broadcasters to a very important meeting where the new CBF guidelines will be presented and analyzed providing you with information to strengthen our resolve to stand up and protect what we have built over the years — a unique and very successful Ethnic Community Broadcasting sector.
The information meeting will be held on Saturday the 29th of October, 2.30 pm at the 3ZZZ new premises 309 Albert St. Brunswick. Plenty of parking space is available and only 1 minute from the Brunswick Railway Station.
