Volunteer And Training

Volunteering at 3ZZZ

 3ZZZ has over 300 volunteers who are the backbone of the station. Our volunteers perform a range of functions.  They are our broadcasters, our panel operators, our program conveners, our program researchers, the people who answer the phones during our annual radiothon, our production assistants, our student interns, our trainers and those who assist the governance of the station by sitting on committees.

TRAINING INFORMATION   

All Broadcasters are required to undertake training and Convenors are responsible to ensure that all Broadcasters are trained.

To apply for Training, contact the 3ZZZ office for an Application Form. You must be nominated by your Group Committee to be trained.

These courses are available:

• Broadcaster Licence

• Panel Operator Licence

The following modules are compulsory and go towards the Broadcaster and/or Panel Operator Licence:

        Introduction to Radio and 3ZZZ (3 hour session)

        Planning a Program  (2 x 2.5 hour sessions – over two weeks)

        Studio Rules, Safety & Evacuation Procedure  (2 hour session)

        Media Law and Copyright  (2 x 2.5 hour sessions – over two weeks)

        Using the Panel (2 x 2 hour sessions – over two weeks)

The following courses are also available for broadcasters to build on their skills:

• Operating an Outside Broadcast

• Sound Editing – Using Cool Edit Pro

• Producing Pre-Recorded Radio Documentaries/Features

• Conducting an interview

• Talkback / Phone interviews

• Use of Portable Recording Equipment

• Using the Internet

• Using Minidisks and pre-recording programs

The participant or the Group are required to make a deposit of $50 each prior to the commencement of a training course. Funds will be returned on the successful completion of the course.
