Mauritian show

Mauritian Community Broadcasting Group

Mauritius is a small island of 1,860 Km2, located about 890 kms to the east of Madagascar. It is today a unique melting pot of peoples, languages and cultures. The population of over 1.2 million who speak Mauritian creole and French have Indian, African, European and Chinese ancestry.

One of the founding groups on 3ZZZ, the Mauritian program broadcasts a weekly two-hour magazine-style program in French and Mauritian creole to an audience that hails mainly from the islands of the Indian Ocean, namely Rodrigues, Reunion, the Seychelles, Madagascar and of course, Mauritius.

With a focus on the community, the program includes news from Mauritius, interviews, music including segas and French songs, community reports, cultural and historical segments, requests and quizzes and also covers events of significance such as Republic Day of Mauritius, Australia Day, La Faya, etc. It is the voice of the Mauritian community of Melbourne and acts as a link between Mauritians in Victoria with compatriots living in other parts of the globe.

The 15-member broadcast team below is made up entirely of volunteers who work in teams of 4 or 5 each Saturday to prepare and present programs, carry out interviews, operate the panel or answer the phone on a rostered basis.
