The Copts are descendants of the Ancient Egyptians, one of the most ancient civilizations on Earth. The term “Coptic” is derived from the Greek word “Aigyptos” meaning Egyptian.

The Coptic language is a development of the ancient Egyptian language spoken since the early days of the Pharaohs and originally written in picture-from called Hieroglyphics.

In the second century A.D. Pantaneus the principal of Theological School of Alexandria establish an alphabet to be used with the Coptic language, using the Greek characters and adding seven from Egyptian, which corresponded to the sounds that do not exists in Greek.

In the 1960’s and 1970’s a large influx of Coptic migrants arrived in Australia and several Coptic communities were established.

During the last fifty years, the Coptic population has grown and expanded in a remarkable way and has reached 12.000, of whom live in Victoria.

Coptic Youth is on every Thursday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

The Coptic Youth program presents a basic construction of the Coptic language, history, heritage and tradition to entertain the community and to teach the younger generation their ancient Coptic heritage.

The Coptic community in Melbourne appreciates Radio 3zzz for giving them the opportunity to listen to the Coptic program which presents their own language and culture.
