RADIOTHON 2009
Thu, 15 Oct 2009 - Sun, 08 Nov 2009
This October from Saturday the 17th to Friday the 31st Radio 3ZZZ 92.3FM – Melbourne’s largest Ethnic Community radio station will be holding their annual radiothon fundraising fortnight. This year also is extra special because it will be held on the eve of 3ZZZ’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.
Radiothon is an essential to help keep 3ZZZ on air and is relied on by over 65 language communities made up of immigrants, international students and refugees to keep them informed and provide them with their own unique grassroots news, current events, music and cultural updates.
“This year’s radiothon is more essential than ever to ensure that 3ZZZ stays on air to support these communities because of the financial turmoil sweeping the world. “ Says Station Manager – Dominique Haslam …“It is during the hard times that media channels like 3ZZZ who are renowned for their community support, get the financial support through Radiothon to remain on-air and be available to help inform new and established ethnic communities of how it all effects them.”
“Without stations like ours, the way forward for these listeners especially the refugees and people from new and emerging communities (some of which can’t read and rely on radio to inform them) will be made even more difficult without access to information in their own language explaining what’s going on in the world and its impact on their community.”
It’s also 3ZZZ’s 20th Anniversary. It was 20 years ago 3ZZZ first began regular broadcasts in Melbourne and in that time, 3ZZZ has helped build ethnic communities and has been a major vehicle for the cultural integration and orientation for new and emerging communities in Melbourne and Australia and helped to make Melbourne the International multicultural success story that it is.
Anyone can donate to the radiothon and if they donate $20 or more they go into the draw to win some amazing prizes!!! (conditions apply).
