The group of Broadcasting in Slovenian Language at 3ZZZ is trying to inform and entertain 12.000 Slovenians living in Australia. The Slovenian program brings Slovenian popular music, radio reports from Slovenia, Slovenian community news and announcements. The first experimental programme of the newly established Community radio station 3ZZZ 92.3FM took place in 1987, the second in 1988. The program came to be offered on Wednesdays from 7 to 8pm.Read more
The December 11th Council meeting approved the concept drawings for the 3ZZZ new premises. The plans - now with the Architects- provide for the Station’s core business, broadcasting, administration and meeting facilities, more and larger than the current ones to be on the Ground floor, with a second floor for additional purposes, and a small area in the rear for commercial income, separated by a fire wall from the rest of the premises. Detail architectural designs are expected to be ready very soon, followed by the permit application to the Moreland City Council and there after construction begins. Every effort will be made to see this historic project completed and 3ZZZ move into the new building well before the end of 2014.
3ZZZ 25th ANNIVERSARY
2014 marks a milestone in the history of 3ZZZ – the 25th Anniversary - and the opening of our new Station. Council agreed to develop a program of activities to celebrate these events and promote 3ZZZ throughout the year. These events to include the updating of the 3ZZ-3ZZZ history book, talks on the significance of ethnic broadcasting and especially 3ZZZ, and a cultural event in June or July at a major Town Hall or Cultural centre.
The Station opening to be an all day open event with an official ceremony. Certificates of recognition of service to be awarded to broadcasters.
Council formed an interim committee to undertake some preparatory steps immediately and further develop ideas and proposals for Council to consider at its first 2014 meeting. This committee consists of the President, Secretary, Manager and Councillor Anthea Sidiropoulos. Others can be co-opted.
ACMA TO RENEW 3ZZZ LICENCE
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has notified us that the 3ZZZ licence will be renewed for another 35 years in June 2014, when the current licence expires. This good news coincides with the planned opening of our new premises in Brunswick and the 3ZZZ 25th anniversary, events we plan to celebrate in a big way.
RACIAL DISCRIMINATION ACT
Council agreed to be a signatory to a broad based community Statement calling on the Attorney General not to water down the Racial Velification Act, which protects people against racism.
